ENERGY Performance contracting (EPC) is the key to cost-effective energy efficiency in existing buildings

The Kyoto Protocol requires actions on the climate change. Each nation that has ratified the protocol has to implement policies and measures such as the enhancement of energy efficiency in buildings, industry and transport and to encourage reforms that are aimed at promoting policies and measures which limit emissions of greenhouse gases. The EU target is a cut of at least 20% in greenhouse gas emissions from all primary energy sources by 2020 compared to 1990 levels.

Because buildings consume 41% of the primary energy resources the EU has enact several directives such as

  • Energy Performance of Buildings                             EPBD    (2002/91)
  • European Public Procurement                                 EPP     (2004/18)
  • Ecodesign for energy-using products                      EuP     (2005/32)
  • End-user energy efficiency & energy services         EEES     (2006/32)

eu-esco cares for practical energy services solutions and especially supports the Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) for more energy efficiency in existing buildings.

While using the building standard procedures to determine the EPC potential – developed by the European Building Automation Controls Association (eu.bac) – EPC allows fulfilling national mandates and European directives on energy savings and enables public authorities to achieve sustainable development and environment goals.

30.06.2010 | 3-4 November 2010 Lisbon, Portugal - The 2010 ESCO Europe conference provides a timely platform for key players in the European ESCO industry to exchange ideas and insights on how to take their ESCO business to the next level. It gives participants the opportunity to share information and learn from ESCO activities in other countries, and should contribute to the future diffusion and expansion of the ESCO industries in Europe. There is still a lot to discuss about the European ESCO market!

01.10.2009 | An intensive discussion on energy performance contracting (EPC) was the result of the first EPC conference on Oct 1st in The Hague, the Netherlands. The benefit for municipalities and urban administration is the reduction of buildings energy consumption without public financial resources. 50 participants listened to the experienced speakers. The presentations (most of them in Dutch language) are available here.
